Possible Causes
Misaligned bin, Failed bin presence micro-switch, Broken bin tab that actuates the switch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before adjusting or replacing switches.
- Check bin installation: Remove and reinstall the ice bin, ensuring it is fully seated and level. Some EdgeStar models require the bin to press a switch or magnetically trigger a sensor.
- Inspect the bin tabs: Look for broken or worn plastic tabs on the bin that engage the switch. Replace the bin if the tabs are damaged.
- Locate the bin switch: Find the micro-switch or magnetic reed switch near the bin area. Verify it is firmly mounted and not bent out of position.
- Test the switch: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the switch and check continuity while pressing the actuator. Replace if it does not change state.
- Install a new switch if needed: Replace the EdgeStar bin presence or door switch with an OEM part. Adjust its position so the bin reliably actuates it when installed.
