Possible Causes
Loose ribbon cable between display and main board, Failed touchpad or control panel, Moisture intrusion into control panel
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before removing the control panel or display.
- Dry the control area: If the panel has been exposed to spills or condensation, allow it to dry completely. Do not use a hair dryer on high heat; use gentle airflow only.
- Check the ribbon cable: Remove the front control panel and inspect the flat ribbon cable connecting the display/keypad to the main control board. Reseat both ends carefully.
- Inspect for corrosion: Look for green or white corrosion on the connectors or circuit traces. Light corrosion can sometimes be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush.
- Test button response: After reassembly, plug in and test each button. If some or all buttons remain unresponsive and E12 persists, the keypad or UI board is likely defective.
- Replace the control panel: Install a new EdgeStar user interface / keypad assembly. Transfer any decorative trim and ensure the gasket seals properly to prevent future moisture intrusion.
