Possible Causes

Blocked ice level sensor, Failed infrared ice level sensor, Loose wiring to ice bin sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before reaching inside the ice bin or removing panels.

  • Empty the ice bin: Remove all ice from the storage bin. Sometimes ice bridges or clumps block the sensor beam.
  • Clean the sensor area: Locate the ice level sensor (often an infrared emitter/receiver pair near the top of the bin). Wipe both sides gently with a soft cloth dampened with warm water. Remove frost, mineral deposits, or dust.
  • Check sensor alignment: Ensure the emitter and receiver are directly facing each other and not bent out of position.
  • Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires back to the control board. Confirm the connector is fully seated and wires are not pinched or broken.
  • Test operation: Plug the unit back in, power on, and run a cycle with the bin empty. If E2 clears and the unit runs, the issue was blockage or misalignment.
  • Replace the ice level sensor: If E2 persists, replace the EdgeStar ice level sensor assembly with the correct part for your model.
