Possible Causes

Failed harvest motor, Jammed ice sweep arm, Broken gear in harvest assembly

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before reaching near moving parts or removing front panels.

  • Inspect the ice sweep arm: Open the front panel or door and locate the ice sweep or harvest arm. Check for ice jams or foreign objects preventing movement. Clear any obstructions.
  • Manually move the arm: Gently try to move the sweep arm by hand. It should move with some resistance but not be completely locked. If it is seized, the motor or gear train may be damaged.
  • Check wiring to the motor: Access the harvest motor assembly and verify the wiring harness is fully connected and not pinched.
  • Test the motor (if equipped): With the unit unplugged, remove the motor and check for continuity across the motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
  • Replace the harvest motor assembly: If the motor is open or gears are stripped, install a new EdgeStar harvest motor/ice sweep assembly. Align the arm according to the service manual so it parks in the correct position.
