Possible Causes

Dirty or blocked infrared bin sensor, Misaligned sensor emitter/receiver, Failed bin thermostat (mechanical type), Broken sensor wiring

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before working inside the bin area.

  • Clean sensor lenses: For infrared systems, locate the emitter and receiver on opposite sides of the bin opening. Wipe both lenses with a soft, damp cloth to remove frost, dust, or mineral film.
  • Check alignment: Ensure the emitter and receiver are directly facing each other and firmly mounted. Adjust brackets if they have been bent.
  • Test mechanical bin thermostat: On models with a bin thermostat, verify the sensing bulb is properly positioned in the bin and not damaged. Use a multimeter to test continuity at different temperatures (ice present vs. no ice).
  • Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires back to the control board. Repair any breaks or replace the harness if necessary.

After cleaning and adjustments, restore power. If the error persists, replace the bin sensor assembly.
