Possible Causes
Failed freezer door switch, misaligned door not activating switch, broken switch actuator, wiring fault to door switch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing door switch assemblies.
- Step 1 – Check door closure: Ensure the freezer or ice compartment door closes fully and evenly. Adjust leveling feet if the cabinet is twisted.
- Step 2 – Test switch operation: Locate the door switch (usually near the top of the opening). Press it by hand; the interior light should turn off. If not, the switch may be faulty.
- Step 3 – Electrical test: With power off, remove the switch and test for continuity while pressing and releasing the actuator. Replace if readings are not as specified.
- Step 4 – Inspect wiring: Check the harness behind the switch for loose connections or damage.
Install a new Fisher & Paykel door switch if defective. After replacement, restore power and confirm the E6 code clears and the ice maker resumes operation.
