Possible Causes

Failed ice maker thermistor, damaged thermistor wiring harness in ice compartment, corroded connector at control module, faulty ice maker control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power to the refrigerator/ice maker at the wall outlet or circuit breaker before removing any panels. Do not work on live circuits.

This code usually indicates the ice maker temperature sensor (thermistor) is reading out of range.

  • Step 1 – Power reset: Unplug the unit for 5 minutes, then restore power. If F1 returns within an hour of operation, continue.
  • Step 2 – Access ice maker assembly: Remove the ice bin from the Fisher & Paykel ice compartment. Remove any decorative cover to expose the ice maker module and wiring harness.
  • Step 3 – Inspect thermistor: Locate the small sensor clipped to the ice mold or mounted on the ice maker housing. Check for broken wires, cracked sensor body, or corrosion at the connector.
  • Step 4 – Check harness and connector: Ensure the thermistor plug is fully seated on the ice maker control module. Look for pinched or chafed wires along the harness route.
  • Step 5 – Replace thermistor or ice maker assembly: If the sensor is damaged or readings are suspect (open/short when tested with a multimeter), replace the ice maker thermistor or the complete Fisher & Paykel ice maker assembly as supplied for your model.
  • Step 6 – Test operation: Restore power, clear the code (if applicable), and allow 24 hours for normal ice production to resume.

If the F1 code persists after replacing the thermistor, the ice maker control board or main control board may be faulty and should be diagnosed by a qualified technician.
