Possible Causes

Failed ice compartment fan, blocked air duct to ice compartment, iced-up evaporator restricting airflow, faulty ice compartment temperature sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before removing covers or fan assemblies. Avoid using sharp tools to remove ice buildup.

  • Step 1 – Check door and seals: Ensure the refrigerator/freezer doors close fully and the Fisher & Paykel door gaskets are intact. Warm air leaks can cause high ice compartment temperature.
  • Step 2 – Inspect ice compartment fan: Remove the ice bin and inner cover to access the small fan that circulates cold air into the ice compartment. Spin the fan blade by hand; it should turn freely. Look for ice buildup around the fan.
  • Step 3 – Defrost if iced up: If the fan or air channel is encased in ice, unplug the unit and allow it to defrost for several hours. Place towels to catch water. Do not chip ice with tools.
  • Step 4 – Test fan operation: After defrosting, restore power and listen for the ice compartment fan running when the doors are closed (you may need to hold the door switch closed). If the fan does not run, replace the Fisher & Paykel ice compartment fan motor.
  • Step 5 – Check sensor: If the fan runs but F2 persists, the ice compartment temperature sensor may be out of range and should be tested and replaced if necessary.

If the compartment still does not cool properly after these steps, the sealed system or main control may be at fault and professional service is recommended.
