Possible Causes

Failed ice maker drive motor, worn or jammed ice ejector gears, faulty ice maker position switch, damaged wiring to ice maker motor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before working on the ice maker mechanism. Moving parts can start unexpectedly.

  • Step 1 – Visual inspection: Remove the ice bin and observe the ice maker ejector arm and gears. Look for broken plastic teeth, obstructions, or ice jams.
  • Step 2 – Clear jams: If cubes are wedged in the ejector fingers, gently remove them by hand. Do not force the ejector arm.
  • Step 3 – Check motor movement: With power restored briefly, listen for the motor attempting to run. If it hums but does not turn, the motor or gear train may be seized.
  • Step 4 – Test motor and switch: Disconnect power again, remove the ice maker module, and test the motor and position switch for continuity according to the service manual values. An open motor winding or switch indicates failure.
  • Step 5 – Replace ice maker assembly: On most Fisher & Paykel models, the motor and switch are integrated. Replace the complete ice maker assembly if defective.

After installation, reset power and allow the unit to complete several cycles. If F5 reappears, further control board diagnostics may be required.
