Possible Causes
Shorted ice compartment thermistor, damaged sensor harness, control board misreading sensor input, sensor not properly mounted to surface
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing sensors and wiring.
- Step 1 – Visual inspection: Remove the ice bin and inner cover to locate the ice compartment temperature sensor. Check that it is firmly attached to its mounting point and not dangling.
- Step 2 – Check for damage: Look for nicks, cuts, or crushed sections in the sensor wiring harness.
- Step 3 – Test thermistor: Disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance with a multimeter at room temperature. Compare to Fisher & Paykel specifications (typically around 5–10 kΩ at 25°C). A reading near 0 Ω indicates a shorted sensor.
- Step 4 – Replace sensor: If readings are out of range, install a new Fisher & Paykel ice compartment thermistor, routing the harness as originally installed.
Restore power and clear the error. If F8 returns, the main control board may be faulty and should be evaluated by a technician.
