Possible Causes
New appliance off-gassing, absorption of food odors in freezer, stagnant water in supply line, non-Fisher & Paykel plastic tubing leaching odor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Use only food-safe cleaners inside the appliance. Do not use solvents.
- Step 1 – Discard initial batches: For new Fisher & Paykel units, discard the first 2–3 full bins of ice.
- Step 2 – Clean freezer: Remove all food and wipe interior surfaces with a solution of baking soda and warm water. Dry thoroughly.
- Step 3 – Check food storage: Ensure strong-smelling foods are tightly sealed to prevent odor transfer.
- Step 4 – Flush water line: Disconnect the water line at the refrigerator and run several liters of water into a bucket to flush stagnant water.
If odors persist, consider replacing non-OEM plastic supply lines with approved refrigerator-grade tubing.
