Frigidaire undercounter ice maker displays E1 and stops making ice
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.

How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the ice maker or switch off the circuit breaker before removing any panels.
Steps to check the evaporator sensor (thermistor):
- Pull the ice maker out enough to access the rear or lower service panel (location varies by model).
- Remove the screws securing the rear or bottom panel and set the panel aside.
- Locate the evaporator plate and find the small sensor (thermistor) clipped to or near the evaporator surface. On many Frigidaire units this is a small, bullet-shaped sensor with two wires leading to the main harness.
- Inspect the thermistor wiring and connector for corrosion, broken insulation, or loose fit at the control board.
- Reconnect any loose plugs firmly until they click into place.
- With a multimeter set to resistance (ohms), test the thermistor at room temperature. Compare the reading to the thermistor chart in the tech sheet (often stored behind the front grille or rear panel). A reading that is open (OL) or shorted (0 ohms) indicates a bad sensor.
- If the thermistor is out of spec, replace it with a Frigidaire-compatible evaporator thermistor kit. Clip the new sensor in the same location and route the wires exactly as original.
- Reassemble the panels, restore power, and clear the error by unplugging for 5 minutes or following the model-specific reset procedure.
If E1 returns immediately: The main control board may be misreading the sensor and could require replacement by a qualified technician.
