How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before servicing. Water and electricity are both present in this area.
Clean and inspect the ice thickness or water level sensor:
- Open the ice maker door or bin to access the evaporator and water reservoir area.
- Locate the ice thickness probe or water level sensor (often a metal or plastic probe near the evaporator grid or in the reservoir on Frigidaire units).
- Check for heavy scale or mineral deposits on the probe. This can cause incorrect readings.
- Mix a solution of warm water and a small amount of ice machine cleaner or white vinegar.
- Wipe the probe thoroughly with a soft cloth or sponge soaked in the solution. Do not use abrasive pads that can damage the sensor surface.
- Rinse with clean water and dry.
- Inspect the sensor wiring harness and connector back to the control board. Reseat the connector firmly.
- Restore power and run a test cycle. Many Frigidaire models will clear E2 after a successful cycle.
If the error persists: Replace the ice thickness sensor or water level sensor assembly with the correct Frigidaire part number. If a new sensor does not resolve the issue, the main control board may be defective.
