Possible Causes

Defective ambient thermistor, Thermistor out of position, Damaged wiring harness, Control board sensor circuit failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before removing any covers.

Check the ambient temperature sensor:

  • Locate the tech sheet (often behind the front kick plate or rear panel) to identify the ambient thermistor location.
  • Remove the front grille or rear panel as needed to access the sensor. On many Frigidaire ice makers, the ambient sensor is mounted near the air intake or on the cabinet wall.
  • Verify the sensor is securely mounted and not hanging loose or touching hot components.
  • Inspect the wiring for cuts, pinches, or burn marks. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
  • Disconnect the thermistor and measure its resistance at room temperature with a multimeter. Compare to the chart on the tech sheet.
  • If the reading is open, shorted, or far out of range, replace the ambient thermistor with a Frigidaire-approved part.
  • Reconnect, reassemble, restore power, and clear the error by power-cycling the unit.

If E3 remains: The control board's sensor input may be faulty and the board may need replacement.
