Possible Causes
Failed condenser thermistor, Blocked condenser airflow, Dirty condenser coil, Faulty condenser fan motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before working near the compressor or fan.
Clean and inspect the condenser area:
- Pull the ice maker away from the wall to access the rear or lower panel.
- Remove the panel to expose the condenser coil and fan.
- Use a soft brush and vacuum to remove dust and lint from the condenser coil fins.
- Ensure the condenser fan blade spins freely and is not obstructed by debris.
- Check that the fan runs when the unit is powered and calling for cooling. If it does not run, test for voltage at the fan motor. Replace the condenser fan motor if it is receiving power but not running.
- Locate the condenser thermistor (often clipped to the condenser line or near the compressor) and inspect its wiring and mounting.
- Test the thermistor resistance and compare to the tech sheet. Replace if out of spec.
- Reassemble, restore power, and monitor operation. The E4 code should clear after normal temperatures are restored.
