Possible Causes

Blocked drain hose, Failed drain pump, Kinked drain line, Clogged internal drain channel

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the ice maker before working on the drain system. Water may spill; have towels ready.

Clear and test the drain system:

  • Locate the drain hose at the back or bottom of the unit. Ensure it is not kinked or pinched.
  • Disconnect the hose from the household drain and blow through it or flush with warm water to confirm it is clear.
  • Remove the front kick plate or rear panel to access the internal drain pump (if equipped).
  • Check the pump inlet for debris, ice, or scale buildup. Clear any obstructions.
  • With the unit powered, run a drain or test cycle and listen for the pump. If it hums but does not move water, the impeller may be jammed or the pump failing.
  • Use a multimeter to check for proper voltage at the pump when it should be running. If voltage is present and the pump does not run, replace the drain pump with a Frigidaire-compatible assembly.
  • Reassemble, restore power, and verify that water drains freely and the E6 code clears.
