Possible Causes

Obstructed ice shovel or pusher arm, Stripped ice shovel motor gear, Failed ice shovel motor, Faulty position sensor or microswitch on shovel assembly

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before reaching inside the ice-making compartment.

Steps to clear E2:

  • Remove ice obstruction: Open the lid, remove the ice basket, and look for jammed ice cubes around the shovel or pusher arm. Break up clumps with a plastic utensil (never use metal tools that can damage the evaporator).
  • Check shovel movement: With power still disconnected, gently move the shovel or pusher arm by hand. It should move smoothly without grinding or binding. If it is locked solid, inspect for broken plastic gears or bent linkage.
  • Inspect the shovel motor: Access the side or rear panel (depending on model) to locate the ice shovel motor. Check the wiring harness and connectors for looseness or damage.
  • Test the motor (optional): With a multimeter, verify continuity of the motor windings. An open circuit indicates a failed motor that must be replaced.
  • Check position switch/sensor: Many Galanz units use a small microswitch or Hall sensor to detect shovel home position. Ensure the actuator tab is not bent and the switch clicks when pressed. Replace the shovel position switch if it does not operate reliably.
  • Reassemble and test: Reinstall panels, plug the unit back in, and run a test cycle. If E2 persists after clearing jams and checking the motor, the control board may not be reading the position correctly.

When to call a technician: If gears are stripped, the motor is defective, or you suspect a control board fault, professional service is recommended.
