Possible Causes
Defective water level sensor in reservoir, Mineral buildup on level probes, Disconnected or damaged sensor wiring, Faulty main control board input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before working inside the water reservoir area.
Steps to resolve E5:
- Empty and clean reservoir: Remove the water tank or reservoir (if removable) and empty it. Clean with warm water and mild dish soap to remove mineral deposits.
- Clean level probes/sensor: Many Galanz ice makers use metal level probes or a float sensor. Gently scrub the probes or float with a soft brush and white vinegar to remove scale that can interfere with sensing.
- Check float movement: If your model uses a float, ensure it moves freely up and down and is not stuck by debris.
- Inspect wiring: Trace the sensor wires back to the control board. Ensure connectors are tight and wires are not pinched.
- Replace sensor: If cleaning does not clear E5, replace the water level sensor assembly with a compatible Galanz part.
- Control board: If a new sensor does not resolve the error, the main control board may not be reading the signal correctly and may need replacement.
When to call a technician: If you are not comfortable accessing internal wiring or replacing the control board, contact a service professional.
