E5 error appears and the ice maker stops; often associated with water filling or freeze time issues.

Safety first: Turn off power and shut off the water supply to the ice maker before disconnecting any water lines.

• Step 1 – Verify water supply: Confirm the saddle valve or shutoff valve to the ice maker is fully open. Check that household water pressure is at least 20–40 psi.
• Step 2 – Inspect inlet valve screen: Remove the rear access panel to locate the water inlet valve. Turn off water, disconnect the inlet line, and inspect the valve screen for sediment. Clean gently with a small brush and rinse.
• Step 3 – Check water filter (if present): If your GE Profile ice maker has an inline or built-in filter, replace it if it is older than 6 months or shows reduced flow.
• Step 4 – Test valve coil: With power off, disconnect the valve wiring. Measure coil resistance with a multimeter and compare to GE specs. An open coil (OL) indicates a bad valve.
• Step 5 – Replace water inlet valve: If the coil is defective or the valve is internally restricted, replace the valve assembly with the correct GE part. Use Teflon tape on threaded fittings and check for leaks after restoring water.
• Step 6 – Reset and test: Restore power, clear the error (if your model has a reset procedure), and run a test cycle to confirm proper fill and freeze.
