Possible Causes
Failed recirculation pump motor, Blocked pump impeller from scale or debris, Airlock in water circulation system, Loose wiring to circulation pump
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and shut off water before servicing the pump. Expect water spillage; have towels ready.
- Step 1 – Access circulation pump: Remove the front panel and ice bin. Locate the water reservoir and the circulation pump attached to it or nearby.
- Step 2 – Inspect for obstructions: Remove the pump outlet hose and check for mineral scale, plastic shavings, or debris blocking the outlet or impeller. Clean thoroughly.
- Step 3 – Bleed air from system: Refill the reservoir to the proper level. Some models require manually priming the pump by slightly lowering the outlet hose until water flows, then reconnecting.
- Step 4 – Check wiring: Verify the pump harness is fully seated and not damaged. Reseat connectors at both the pump and control board.
- Step 5 – Test pump operation: Restore power briefly and listen/feel for pump operation. If the pump hums but does not move water, the impeller may be seized. If it is silent and has proper voltage, the motor is likely failed.
- Step 6 – Replace pump: If cleaning and priming do not restore function, replace the circulation pump assembly with the correct GE Profile part.
