Safety first: Unplug the unit and shut off water. Wear gloves and eye protection when using cleaners.
- Step 1 – Remove ice and parts: Empty the bin and remove any removable parts such as the bin, reservoir cover, and distribution components.
- Step 2 – Manual cleaning: Scrub all accessible surfaces with warm water and mild detergent. Use a soft brush to remove slime and scale.
- Step 3 – Descale and sanitize: Run a full descaling and sanitizing cycle with GE-approved cleaner, following the instructions for contact time and rinsing.
- Step 4 – Improve maintenance schedule: Going forward, clean and sanitize the ice maker at least every 6 months, or more often in warm or hard-water environments.
