Possible Causes

Failed water inlet valve coil, Clogged inlet screen on GE water valve, Low household water pressure, Kinked or frozen water supply line

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the water supply and disconnect power before working on the water system.

  • Verify water supply: Confirm the shutoff valve to the ice maker is fully open and that household water pressure is adequate (typically 20–120 psi).
  • Inspect supply line: Check the copper or braided line for kinks, sharp bends, or freezing (in cold locations). Straighten or thaw as needed.
  • Clean inlet screen: Remove the rear access panel to reach the GE water inlet valve. Turn off water, disconnect the inlet line, and inspect the small screen filter inside the valve. Clean debris with a soft brush and reinstall.
  • Check for valve operation: Restore power and water, then start a cycle. Listen for the valve click and water flow. If the valve does not energize or only hums, the coil may be defective.
  • Replace valve if needed: If the valve coil is open/shorted or the valve is clogged internally, replace the water inlet valve with the correct GE part number.
