Possible Causes
Defective ambient temperature sensor (cabinet sensor), loose or oxidized sensor connector on main control board, damaged sensor wiring harness, failed main control PCB input circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the Gevi ice maker before opening any panels. Do not work on the unit while it is connected to power.
Steps to check and address E1:
- Power reset: Unplug the ice maker for 10 minutes, then plug it back in and see if E1 clears. If it returns, continue.
- Locate the ambient sensor: Remove the rear or side service panel (varies by model). Look for a small probe-type sensor clipped to the inner wall or near the air intake, connected by two thin wires to the main control board.
- Inspect wiring and connector: Check the sensor plug at the main control PCB. Ensure it is fully seated, not corroded, and that the wires are not pinched or broken. Reseat the connector several times to clean contacts.
- Check sensor resistance (for advanced users): With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to the service chart if available (typically 5–50 kΩ depending on temperature). An open circuit or 0 Ω indicates a bad sensor.
- Replace the sensor if faulty: If resistance is out of range or intermittent when you gently flex the wire, replace the ambient temperature sensor with a compatible Gevi part. Route the new sensor along the original path and secure it with clips or tape away from moving parts.
- If E1 persists: If a known-good sensor is installed and wiring is intact, the main control PCB sensor input may be defective. At this point, replacement of the control board or professional diagnosis is recommended.
