Possible Causes

Faulty ice thickness probe, mineral buildup on thickness sensor, misadjusted ice thickness control, damaged sensor wiring, defective control board input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before touching the evaporator or sensor assemblies.

How to address E4:

  • Inspect ice thickness probe: Locate the metal or plastic probe near the evaporator plate that senses ice thickness or water level. It may be a small rod or plate that the ice contacts during harvest.
  • Clean mineral deposits: Use a soft cloth and a mixture of warm water and white vinegar (1:1) to gently clean the probe and surrounding area. Scale buildup can insulate the sensor and cause errors.
  • Check mechanical adjustment: Some Gevi models have an adjustable ice thickness sensor. Verify it is not bent or pushed out of its normal position. Refer to the user manual for the correct gap or position if available.
  • Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires to the control board. Ensure there are no cuts, kinks, or loose connectors.
  • Run a test cycle: After cleaning and reassembly, plug the unit in and run a full cycle. Observe whether the ice forms and releases properly and whether E4 reappears.
  • Replace sensor if faulty: If the error persists and the probe is clean and correctly positioned, replace the ice thickness sensor with a compatible Gevi part. If that does not resolve the issue, the main control PCB may require replacement.
