Possible Causes
Blocked condenser airflow, failed condenser fan motor, dirty condenser coil, overheating compressor, faulty compressor overload protector, defective main control board relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Unplug the ice maker before cleaning coils or accessing internal components. Allow the compressor to cool before touching.
Steps to troubleshoot E5:
- Check ventilation: Ensure the Gevi ice maker has at least several inches of clearance on all sides and is not installed in a confined cabinet. Move it away from walls or heat sources.
- Clean condenser coils: Access the rear or bottom of the unit to locate the condenser coil (metal radiator-like tubing). Use a soft brush or vacuum with a brush attachment to remove dust and lint.
- Verify condenser fan operation: With the unit plugged in and running (exercise caution, keep fingers clear), confirm the condenser fan spins freely and at full speed. If it does not run, unplug the unit and inspect the fan for obstructions or damage.
- Inspect fan wiring: Check the fan motor connector at the control board and at the fan. Reseat connectors and look for burnt or loose terminals.
- Allow cooling time: If the compressor overheated, leave the unit unplugged for 30–60 minutes to allow the overload protector to reset, then try again.
- Replace faulty parts: If the fan motor is seized or noisy, replace the condenser fan motor. If the compressor does not start even with a working fan and good airflow, the overload protector or compressor itself may be faulty and should be diagnosed by a professional.
