Possible Causes

Open defrost/harvest heater element, Failed heater thermal fuse, Burnt heater wiring, Faulty heater relay on main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the appliance. The heater area can be hot; allow it to cool before touching.

  • Access evaporator and heater: Remove the front cover and ice bin to expose the evaporator plate and attached heater strip or wire.
  • Inspect heater wiring: Look for burnt insulation, loose connectors, or signs of overheating along the heater leads.
  • Test heater element: Disconnect the heater leads and measure resistance with a multimeter. An open circuit indicates a failed heater.
  • Check thermal fuse (if fitted): Some Gorenje models include a thermal cutoff in series with the heater. Test for continuity; replace if open.
  • Verify relay output: If the heater and fuse test good, check for voltage at the heater terminals during harvest (requires live testing; only for qualified persons). Lack of voltage may indicate a bad relay on the main PCB.
  • Replace faulty parts: Install a new heater assembly or thermal fuse as needed. If the PCB relay is defective, replace the main control board.
