Possible Causes
Open-circuit evaporator thermistor, Shorted cabinet temperature sensor, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Corroded connector at control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing internal wiring or control boards.
Steps to check:
- Locate sensors: Grundig ice makers typically use a thermistor clipped to the evaporator plate and another in the cabinet air stream. Refer to the service diagram if available.
- Inspect wiring: Check the sensor leads for cuts, pinches, or signs of moisture ingress. Ensure connectors are fully seated on the main control board.
- Measure resistance: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the suspect thermistor and measure its resistance at room temperature. Compare to Grundig's specification (commonly 5–10 kΩ at 25°C). An open or near-zero reading indicates a bad sensor.
- Replace faulty sensor: If readings are out of range, replace the thermistor with a compatible Grundig part. Clip or mount it in the same position to ensure accurate sensing.
Tip: After replacement, clear any stored error by unplugging the unit for several minutes before restarting.
