Possible Causes

Defective evaporator thermistor, Loose thermistor clip on evaporator plate, Broken thermistor wiring harness, Faulty main control board sensor circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before removing covers or touching internal components. Avoid damaging refrigerant lines.

Steps to diagnose:

  • Access the evaporator area: Remove the front or top panel to expose the ice-making compartment. The evaporator sensor is usually clipped to the evaporator plate or embedded near the ice tray.
  • Inspect sensor placement: Ensure the thermistor is firmly clipped to the evaporator surface and has good contact. If it has fallen off or is hanging loose, reattach it securely.
  • Check wiring: Follow the sensor wires back to the main PCB. Look for chafed insulation, broken conductors, or loose connectors. Reseat the connector on the board.
  • Measure resistance: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the thermistor and measure its resistance. Compare to Haier’s temperature/resistance chart. A reading of infinite (open) or near 0 Ω indicates a failed sensor.
  • Replace sensor if needed: Install a new Haier-compatible evaporator thermistor, routing the harness away from sharp metal edges and moving parts.
  • Control board evaluation: If the sensor tests good and wiring is intact, the control board may misread the sensor. Inspect for visible damage and consider replacement if E2 persists.

When to call a technician: If you are not comfortable working near the sealed refrigeration system or interpreting resistance charts, contact a professional.
