Possible Causes

Blocked infrared ice level sensor, Failed mechanical bin switch, Misaligned ice bin, Faulty bin level sensor wiring

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before cleaning sensors or removing the bin.

Steps to correct:

  • Empty and reseat the bin: Remove the ice storage bin, empty it completely, and reinstall it fully seated. Some Haier models will show an error if the bin is not properly positioned.
  • Clean optical sensors: If your model uses infrared sensors, locate the emitter and receiver windows on opposite sides of the bin opening. Clean both with a soft cloth and mild glass cleaner. Dry thoroughly.
  • Check mechanical switch: On models with a mechanical bin switch or lever, ensure the lever moves freely and is not jammed by ice. Manually operate the switch and listen for a click.
  • Inspect wiring: Access the control area and follow the bin sensor wiring to the main board. Look for loose connectors or damaged wires. Reseat connectors firmly.
  • Test sensor: With a multimeter, test continuity of a mechanical bin switch or follow Haier’s diagnostic mode to test optical sensors. Replace the sensor assembly if it fails tests.
  • Reset unit: After cleaning and checks, restore power and run a cycle. If E3 returns immediately, the sensor or control board may be defective.

When to call a technician: If sensor replacement does not clear the error or you suspect a control board issue, professional diagnosis is recommended.
