Possible Causes
Stuck water level float, Mineral scale on level sensor, Failed float switch, Damaged sensor wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and turn off water supply before working inside the water reservoir.
Steps to correct:
- Access water reservoir: Remove the ice bin and interior covers to expose the water tank or trough.
- Inspect float or sensor: Locate the float assembly or electronic water level sensor. Check for mineral deposits, slime, or debris that could prevent free movement or accurate sensing.
- Clean components: Remove the float and clean with warm water and mild vinegar solution to dissolve scale. Wipe electronic sensors gently with a soft cloth.
- Check wiring: Ensure the float switch or sensor harness is intact and firmly connected to the control board.
- Test switch: For mechanical floats, use a multimeter to test continuity while moving the float up and down. Replace the switch if readings do not change.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall the cleaned or new parts, restore water and power, and run a cycle to confirm normal water fill and that E9 clears.
When to call a technician: If the sensor tests good but the control still reports E9, a board-level fault may exist and should be evaluated by a professional.
