Possible Causes
Failed compressor start relay, Open thermal overload protector, Low supply voltage, Locked or seized compressor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before opening any panels. High-voltage components can be dangerous.
- Check power supply: Verify the outlet voltage with a multimeter. Ensure it matches the rating on the Hansa nameplate and that the circuit is not overloaded.
- Inspect start relay and overload: Access the compressor compartment. Remove the start relay and overload protector from the compressor terminals. Look for burn marks, rattling (broken internal parts), or melted plastic.
- Test start relay: Measure continuity according to the relay type (PTC or mechanical). Replace if open, shorted, or physically damaged.
- Test overload protector: Check continuity across the overload. An open reading at room temperature indicates a failed protector that must be replaced.
- Compressor condition: If new start components do not restore operation and the compressor draws very high current or hums then trips, the compressor may be locked. In this case, contact a certified refrigeration technician for compressor replacement.
