Possible Causes

Faulty ice tray position sensor, Jammed ice tray or stuck ejector arm, Broken tray motor, Loose wiring between tray motor and control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before accessing internal components.

  • Open the ice-making compartment: Remove the front cover or internal panel to expose the ice tray and ejector mechanism.
  • Check for jams: Look for oversized ice cubes, clumped ice, or foreign objects preventing the tray from rotating. Remove any obstruction and gently move the tray by hand to confirm it moves freely.
  • Inspect the tray motor and sensor: Locate the small motor and position sensor (often a Hall sensor or micro-switch) attached to the tray. Check for broken plastic mounts or disconnected wires.
  • Test the sensor: With a multimeter, check continuity of the position sensor or micro-switch while manually moving the tray through its range. Replace the sensor if it does not change state.
  • Check wiring harness: Ensure the harness from the tray motor/sensor to the main PCB is intact and firmly connected at both ends.
  • Replace faulty parts: If the motor hums but tray does not move, replace the ice tray motor assembly. If the tray moves but E2 persists, replace the tray position sensor.
