Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the ice maker before touching internal components.
Steps to resolve:
- Empty the ice basket: Remove all ice from the storage basket. Sometimes a jammed pile of ice blocks the sensor and triggers E2.
- Clean the sensor window: Locate the ice full sensor near the top of the ice basket area (often a small clear window or pair of lenses). Wipe gently with a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with clean water. Avoid harsh chemicals.
- Check for misalignment: Ensure the sensor bracket is not bent and that the emitter and receiver are facing each other correctly. Gently straighten if needed.
- Inspect wiring: With the unit unplugged and rear cover removed, follow the sensor wires to the control board. Confirm the connector is firmly seated and wires are not pinched or broken.
- Reset and test: Reassemble, plug in, and power ON. Run a cycle and observe if E2 reappears.
Service note: If E2 persists and the sensor is clean and aligned, the infrared ice level sensor module is likely defective and should be replaced. In rare cases, the main control board may misread the sensor and require replacement.
