hOmeLabs ice maker displays E3 and stops making ice shortly after starting

• Check for physical obstruction: Remove the ice basket and visually inspect the ice tray. Make sure no ice cubes are wedged, and the tray can move freely. Remove any stuck ice with warm (not hot) water.
• Manually move the tray: With the unit unplugged, gently move the tray a few millimeters to feel for binding. Do not force it; if it is jammed, look for broken plastic or foreign objects.
• Inspect tray motor and sensor: Remove the rear or bottom cover to access the tray motor assembly. Check that the motor mounting screws are tight and that the position sensor (small magnet and reed/Hall sensor) is intact and aligned.
• Check wiring: Ensure the tray motor and sensor connectors are fully seated on the control board and that no wires are cut or pinched.
• Reset: Reassemble, plug in, and power ON. Run a cycle and watch the tray movement. If E3 reappears, the motor or sensor is likely faulty.

Professional repair: Replacing the tray motor assembly or position sensor usually requires partial disassembly of the cabinet and should be done by a technician if you are not comfortable working with small mechanical parts and wiring.
