How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before accessing the pump or water system.
Steps to clear E8:
- Check water level and quality: Ensure the reservoir is filled to the proper level with clean water. Very low level or heavy sediment can cause pump issues.
- Bleed air from pump: Turn the unit OFF and ON several times with a full reservoir to help purge air. Some models benefit from tilting slightly backward to move air bubbles away from the pump intake.
- Clean intake screen: Remove the ice basket and inspect the pump intake at the bottom of the reservoir. Clean any debris or scale with a soft brush.
- Access the pump: Remove the rear or bottom panel to locate the water pump. Check that the hoses are firmly attached and not kinked.
- Test pump operation: With panels off, briefly plug in and start a cycle. Listen for the pump running and watch for water movement (keep hands clear). Unplug again before further work.
Repair guidance: If the pump is silent or only hums without moving water, it is likely failed and should be replaced. If the pump runs but E8 persists, inspect the control board output and wiring. Pump replacement is moderate difficulty and may be done by a skilled DIYer.
