Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the ice maker before accessing the evaporator or heater wiring. The heater can become very hot during operation.
Troubleshooting:
- Observe ice release: If possible, watch a cycle before E9 appears. Note whether the ice tray warms and cubes release cleanly or remain stuck.
- Access heater assembly: Remove the rear or side panel to expose the evaporator/ice tray area. Look for a thin heater strip or wire attached to the tray or evaporator plate.
- Inspect wiring: Check for burnt insulation, loose connectors, or broken wires leading to the heater.
- Check thermal fuse (if present): Some heaters include an inline thermal fuse. With the unit unplugged, test continuity across the fuse with a multimeter. An open fuse indicates it has blown and must be replaced with the exact type.
Repair note: Heater and thermal fuse replacement involves working near refrigerant components and should be done carefully to avoid damaging the evaporator. If you are not experienced, have a technician perform this repair. If the heater circuit tests good, the control board heater relay may be defective.
