Improper Ice Cube Formation
Ice cubes are very small, hollow, or melt quickly
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Low water level, Mineral buildup on evaporator plate, Incorrect cube size setting, Poor cooling due to dirty condenser
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug before cleaning internal surfaces.
Steps to improve cube quality:
- Adjust cube size: Set the unit to a larger cube size and run several cycles to see if cube thickness improves.
- Maintain water level: Keep the reservoir near the MAX line. Low water can cause thin or hollow cubes.
- Descale evaporator: Run a cleaning cycle with a descaling solution or 1:1 vinegar-water. Wipe the evaporator/ice tray surface gently with a soft cloth, then rinse thoroughly.
- Clean condenser and improve airflow: Dusty coils or poor ventilation reduce cooling capacity and affect cube formation.
If cube quality remains poor after cleaning and adjustments, the refrigeration system may be underperforming and should be evaluated by a technician.
