Possible Causes
Dirty water reservoir, Biofilm or scale in water lines, Use of unfiltered tap water with strong odor, Ice absorbing odors from environment
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug before cleaning. Do not mix cleaning chemicals.
Cleaning steps:
- Empty and clean reservoir: Discard all ice and water. Wash the reservoir and ice basket with warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly.
- Descale system: Fill reservoir with a 1:1 vinegar-water solution and run a cleaning cycle if available, or run several ice cycles and discard the ice. Then flush with two full reservoirs of clean water.
- Clean evaporator and scoop: Wipe the ice tray/evaporator and scoop with a food-safe sanitizer or vinegar solution, then rinse.
- Use better water: Switch to filtered or bottled water to reduce odors and mineral content.
Persistent bad taste after thorough cleaning may indicate bacterial growth in internal tubing; tubing replacement or professional sanitizing may be required.
