Possible Causes
Open or shorted evaporator NTC sensor,Loose sensor harness connection at control board,Corroded sensor connector at evaporator,Failed main control PCB sensor input circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before accessing internal components. Sharp metal edges may be present around the evaporator.
- Access the evaporator: Remove the ice bin and internal cover to expose the evaporator plate or grid. On many Hoover ice makers, the NTC sensor is clipped or strapped to the evaporator surface.
- Inspect sensor and wiring: Look for a small probe or bullet‑style sensor attached to the evaporator with a wire leading back to the control board. Check for broken insulation, pinched wires, or corrosion at the connector.
- Test sensor resistance: Disconnect the sensor from the harness and measure its resistance with a multimeter at room temperature. Compare to Hoover’s service chart (commonly 5–20 kΩ at 25°C). A reading of 0 Ω (short) or OL (open) indicates a bad sensor.
- Check harness to PCB: Reseat the connector at the main control PCB. Inspect for bent pins or moisture damage.
- Replace the NTC sensor: If resistance is out of spec, install a new Hoover evaporator temperature sensor. Reattach it firmly to the evaporator surface using the original clip or thermal tape to ensure accurate readings.
- Control board check: If the sensor tests good but E2 persists, the sensor input circuit on the main PCB may be defective and the board may need replacement.
