Possible Causes
Faulty ambient NTC sensor,Loose or damaged sensor wiring,Sensor dislodged from mounting location,Defective main control PCB reading
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the Hoover ice maker before removing covers.
- Locate ambient sensor: The ambient or cabinet NTC is usually mounted near the air intake grille or on the liner wall inside the cabinet. Refer to the model’s parts diagram if available.
- Visual inspection: Check that the sensor is intact and not hanging loose. Look for crushed or cut wires, especially where they pass through cabinet holes.
- Measure resistance: Disconnect the sensor from the harness and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to Hoover’s NTC chart. Replace the sensor if the reading is open, shorted, or far out of range.
- Check connector at PCB: Reseat the plug on the main control board. Clean any oxidation with contact cleaner and ensure a snug fit.
- Re‑mount sensor: If the sensor has fallen away from its mounting point, reattach it using the original clip or bracket so it senses cabinet air correctly.
- Replace control board if needed: If the sensor and wiring are good but E3 remains, the main control PCB may not be interpreting the sensor correctly and should be replaced.
