Possible Causes
Blocked infrared ice level sensor,Faulty mechanical bin switch,Disconnected or damaged sensor wiring,Failed ice full sensor module
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before working inside the ice bin area.
- Identify sensor type: Hoover ice makers may use an infrared (IR) emitter/receiver pair or a mechanical lever switch to detect a full bin.
- Clean IR sensors: If your model uses IR sensors, gently clean the sensor windows on both sides of the bin opening with a soft cloth and warm water. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
- Check mechanical lever: For lever‑type bin switches, move the lever up and down. It should move freely and click. Remove any ice buildup or obstruction preventing movement.
- Test switch continuity: Disconnect the bin switch and test with a multimeter while operating the lever. Replace the switch if it does not open/close correctly.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the harness from the sensor or switch back to the control board. Repair any broken wires and reseat connectors.
- Replace sensor module: If cleaning and wiring checks do not clear E6, replace the Hoover ice full sensor or bin switch assembly with the correct part number.
