Possible Causes

Failed harvest motor,Obstructed ice ejector mechanism,Stripped gear in motor assembly,Loose wiring to harvest motor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the ice maker before accessing the ice making head or ejector assembly.

  • Inspect ejector area: Remove the ice bin and any covers over the ice making head. Look for jammed ice cubes, broken plastic pieces, or foreign objects blocking the ejector fingers or rake.
  • Manually rotate: If accessible, gently try to rotate the ejector or harvest cam by hand. It should move with some resistance but not be seized. Do not force it.
  • Check motor wiring: Locate the harvest motor on the side or back of the ice mold assembly. Inspect the wiring harness and connector for damage or loose fit. Reseat the connector.
  • Test motor: With the motor disconnected, measure its resistance. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. If you have access to the service manual, follow Hoover’s test procedure for the harvest motor.
  • Replace harvest motor assembly: If the motor is open, noisy, or gears are stripped, replace the complete harvest motor/ejector assembly. Transfer any cams or position switches as per the original configuration.
