Possible Causes

Failed hot gas solenoid valve,Blocked capillary or hot gas line,Defective defrost/harvest thermistor,Main control board not energizing valve

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit. Work around the sealed refrigeration system only for inspection; do not open refrigerant lines unless you are certified.

  • Check wiring to hot gas valve: Locate the hot gas solenoid valve near the compressor or condenser. Inspect its coil and wiring harness for burns, loose connectors, or damage.
  • Measure coil resistance: Disconnect the coil and measure resistance with a multimeter. A reading of OL (open) or very low resistance indicates a bad coil. Replace the valve coil or complete valve assembly as specified by Hoover.
  • Verify control output: During harvest (refer to service mode if available), check if the control board sends voltage to the hot gas valve. If no voltage is present while the board commands harvest, the main PCB may be faulty.
  • Inspect thermistor: Some Hoover models use a harvest thermistor to signal when to energize the valve. Test the thermistor resistance and replace if out of spec.
  • Professional sealed‑system service: If the valve coil is good but ice still will not release, the valve may be mechanically stuck or the system may be restricted. A refrigeration technician should evaluate and replace the valve or clear restrictions.
