Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn off power and shut off water before removing panels or working inside the unit.
- Check if bin is full: Empty the storage bin completely. Many Hoshizaki models will not start if the bin control senses a full bin.
- Inspect mechanical bin control (if equipped): On older models, locate the mechanical bin thermostat or lever switch in the bin area. Ensure the lever moves freely and is not stuck in the "full" position. Listen for a click when moving the lever. Replace if no click or if physically damaged.
- Inspect infrared bin control (optical sensor): On newer models, locate the emitter and receiver modules near the top of the bin opening. Clean both lenses with a soft cloth and mild soap solution. Ensure nothing is blocking the beam (ice, plastic liner, debris).
- Check wiring harness: Follow the bin control wiring back to the control board. Confirm connectors are fully seated and wires are not pinched or broken.
- Reset the unit: Restore power and press the power or reset button (if present). Observe if the 2-beep code clears and the unit begins a fill cycle.
When to call a technician: If the bin is empty, sensors are clean, and wiring is intact but the 2-beep code persists, the bin control assembly or control board may need replacement and calibration.
