Possible Causes
Failed bin thermostat (mechanical style), Faulty bin control sensor (electronic style), Misadjusted bin thermostat, Open or shorted bin control wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Disconnect power before working in the bin area.
- Empty the bin: Remove all ice from the storage bin to ensure the bin control is not legitimately satisfied.
- Identify bin control type: Mechanical thermostat types have a sensing bulb; electronic types use a sensor or optical system. Refer to the model’s manual.
- Check mechanical thermostat: Rotate the thermostat knob through its range and listen for a click. If no click or if the unit does not respond, test continuity with a meter and replace if open.
- Check electronic sensor: Inspect the sensor and wiring for damage. Clean any ice or debris from around the sensor. Reseat connectors at the control board.
- Reset and test: Restore power and see if E2 clears. Run a test cycle and confirm the unit stops when the bin is actually full.
When to call a technician: If the bin control tests good but E2 persists, the control board may be misreading the bin input.
