Possible Causes
Defective harvest thermistor, Loose thermistor clip on evaporator, Scale buildup affecting temperature sensing, Control board harvest timing fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Disconnect power and shut off water before servicing.
- Clean evaporator: Scale can insulate the thermistor from the evaporator. Perform a full descaling with nickel-safe cleaner.
- Inspect harvest thermistor: Confirm it is firmly clipped to the correct location per the service manual. Replace if cracked or corroded.
- Test thermistor: Measure resistance and compare to the temperature chart. Replace if out of spec.
- Reset and test: Clear E5 and observe the next freeze and harvest cycle to ensure proper termination.
When to call a technician: If E5 persists with a new thermistor and clean evaporator, the control board may require replacement.
