Possible Causes

Corrupted control board firmware, Power surge damage, Defective main control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the ice maker before any disassembly.

  • Power reset: Disconnect power for at least 5 minutes to allow the control to fully discharge. Plug back in and see if E16 clears.
  • Check surge protection: If the unit is not on a surge protector, consider adding one to prevent future damage.
  • Inspect control board: Remove the access panel and visually inspect the main control board for burnt components or corrosion.
  • Replace control board: If E16 persists after a reset and there is evidence of board failure, replace the main control board with the correct Hotpoint part.

If a new board does not resolve E16, contact Hotpoint support or a technician, as model-specific firmware or configuration may be required.
