Possible Causes
Condenser fan failure, Blocked condenser coils, Ambient temperature too high around unit, Faulty high-temperature sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the ice maker before cleaning or removing panels.
- Check installation location: Ensure the Hotpoint ice maker has adequate clearance around the sides and back for ventilation. Avoid enclosed cabinets or tight spaces.
- Clean condenser coils: Access the rear or bottom of the unit and locate the condenser coils. Use a soft brush and vacuum to remove dust and lint. Do not bend the fins.
- Inspect condenser fan: Confirm the fan spins freely by hand with power off. With power restored briefly, verify the fan runs when the compressor is on. If it hums, is noisy, or does not start, replace the condenser fan motor.
- Check for blocked air vents: Make sure nothing is blocking the air intake or exhaust grilles.
- Sensor check: If the high-temperature sensor or thermal fuse is accessible, inspect wiring and connectors. Replace the sensor if it is open or physically damaged.
After cleaning and repairs, allow the unit to cool and reset. If E4 reappears, the sealed system or control board may be at fault and should be checked by a technician.
