Possible Causes
Stuck mechanical float, Faulty water level sensor, Mineral buildup in reservoir, Damaged float switch wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power and shut off water supply before opening the unit.
- Access water reservoir: Remove the ice bin and internal covers to locate the water reservoir and float or level sensor assembly.
- Inspect float: If your Hotpoint model uses a float, ensure it moves freely up and down. Clean any scale or slime buildup with warm water and mild detergent.
- Check sensor wiring: For electronic level sensors, inspect the harness and connectors for corrosion or loose pins. Reseat connectors at both the sensor and control board.
- Clean reservoir: Drain the reservoir and wipe it clean. Rinse thoroughly to remove any detergent residue.
- Replace faulty sensor: If the float is cracked or the sensor tests open/shorted, replace the water level sensor or float switch with the correct Hotpoint part.
After reassembly, restore water and power, then monitor a full cycle to confirm proper fill level and that E7 does not return.
