Possible Causes
Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice buildup blocking fan blade, Loose fan wiring connector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the ice maker before accessing the fan area. Beware of sharp fins and edges.
- Access evaporator fan: Remove the internal rear panel in the ice compartment to expose the evaporator coil and fan assembly.
- Check for ice obstruction: Look for frost or ice blocking the fan blades. If present, allow the unit to defrost fully (leave unplugged with doors open and towels to catch water).
- Inspect fan blades: Ensure the blades are not broken or rubbing against housing. Spin the fan by hand; it should rotate freely.
- Check wiring: Reseat the fan motor connector and inspect for damaged wires.
- Replace fan motor: If the motor is seized, noisy, or does not run when powered, replace the evaporator fan motor with a compatible Hotpoint part.
Reassemble and restore power. If E8 persists, the control board fan driver circuit may be defective and require replacement.
